Quick Snips September 2014<< Back to Blog
Welcome to Spring on the Sunshine Coast. I have got to say that it didn’t feel like much of a winter although we did finish of with a couple of pretty wet weekends. Hopefully they are over and done with now and we can get back into that golden run that has been pretty easy to get accustomed to. The end of this coming month will take us into our next school holidays which run from September 20th through to our most favourite new long weekend finishing October 6th. Apart from a couple of footy grand finals this will also see the start of the new surf lifesaving season. For anyone interested this years nippers sign on day is Sunday September 28th at all local clubs. The Marcoola Traders are also planning a Second Hand Surfboard Market on the 28th and are encouraging anyone with surplus surf craft to drag them out of their sheds, clean them up and get them along to sell, swap or just compare with others on the day. If you are around make sure you come along to see what comes out. The Coolum Surf Club renovations have also been completed in time for the holidays so it should now run like the well oiled, state of the art licenced surfclub that it is.
For those of you that have been with us for a while, it is with great sadness that we let you know that Leanne Borg, mother of our former reception/property manager Casey Borg passed away after a long and determined battle with illness. The Borgs have been a big part of the Coolum community for a long time and our thoughts are with them.
Finally, council has received the long awaited environmental impact study for the Maroochy Airport realignment. Better late than never but it will now go out to the local community for a public consultation period.
We mentioned that a new estate called The Retreat had been approved along Mudjimba Beach Road, well there is no doubting where it goes now. In the blink of an eye there is not a tree left standing and soon to be replaced with 30 lots ranging from 500m2 through to 900m2 and priced from $275000 to $335000. More than half these blocks already have people committed to them and not surprisingly over 90% of these have gone to people already in Mudjimba.
The long awaited appeal by Mal Pratt against the refusal of his development application for the 10 hectare site along the David Low Way at Mudjimba will be in court this month. Mal has proposed a number of ventures for this site including the ill fated Surf World theme park. This latest proposal was for a shopping centre with restaurants and movie theatres was turned down by the previous council. After the last court decision against Stocklands not to overturn the rejection of their development for Twin Waters West it is very hard to imagine that this appeal will not go the same way.
The Sunshine Coast Council has introduced some harsher penalties for aggressive dogs and their owners in the wake of a number of serious incidents that occurred in a very short period of time recently. This is part of an overall Responsible Dog Ownership campaign aimed at promoting socially responsible behavior in shared zones such as parks and beaches, increasing awareness of dog laws and encouraging owners to make sure that their dogs are not a nuisance to other people and animals.
The first stage of the new Coolum Fairways townhouses on Mount Coolum golf course will be released to the market this month. The first stage will consist of 6 spacious 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, double lockup garage townhouses situated on the 16th fairway and three townhouses with north facing aspects to Mount Coolum overlooking the pool. If you think you would like some information on these please let any of our sales team know.
The start of spring is traditionally the kick start for our stronger real estate selling cycle and this year will be no different. There are still parts of the market that represent good buying and other areas that have moved upwards already in price and may be worthwhile considering taking advantage of now if you have been waiting for a better time to sell. Our next auction event is set down for October 9th at Ramada Marcoola and we have a good selection and variety of properties being offered. Please contact any of our experienced sales team at any time if you are considering buying or selling for an update on what we are seeing happening now and not just rely on what tis being sprouted by the media.
See you all at the beach sometime soon!
