Climate

The Sunshine Coast averages seven hours sunshine daily, which is one of the highest ratings in the world. Average summer temperatures range from 17C to 28C. Winter temperatures range from 7C - 22C, with days being mild and sunny. Spring and Autumn are always popular with visitors as temperatures range from 13C - 25C.

Population

Almost 280,000 people now live on the Sunshine Coast. The highly prized Sunshine Coast lifestyle is the major contributor to the region's rapid population growth. Population is currently growing at 6%, which is 5 times the national average. Maroochy Shire continues to be the nerve centre of Sunshine Coast growth.

 

Tourism

The region ranks second only to the Gold Coast in terms of total domestic visitor volume. The Sunshine Coast attracted 1,412,000 visitors on 1995-1996, an increase of almost 20%. Visitors spent a total of $565 million, the bulk of visitors to the Sunshine Coast are Queenslanders and close to nine out of ten visitors come for holiday and recreation purposes.


 

Access

The Bruce Highway links the Sunshine Coast with Queensland's capital, Brisbane, traversing each of the region's three local authority areas. The highway is four lanes between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.

Rail

A regular electric rail service operates between the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane, stopping in hinterland townships. The service is used primarily by Coast residents commuting to Brisbane.

Air

Sunshine Coast Airport is centrally located at Marcoola. Jetstar, Tiger Airways and Virgin operate regular direct jet services to the Sunshine Coast from Sydney and Melbourne. A recent $10 million expansion of the Airport
has been undertaken, traffic through the Airport has grown 18% per year
since 1987-98
